Adults with existing white-matter lesions took mixed tocotrienols or placebo for two years; lesions grew less in the tocotrienol group.

White-matter lesions are small areas of damage seen on brain MRI. They become more common with age and with vascular risk factors.

Participants took palm tocotrienol complex twice daily. MRI scans after two years suggested lesion volume stayed more stable than with placebo.

Key takeaway: One of the most-cited human trials for tocotrienols and the brain. The findings need replication in larger groups.
