In membrane models, alpha-tocotrienol stopped lipid oxidation 40–60 times more efficiently than alpha-tocopherol.
The authors linked the difference to three properties: a more even spread through the membrane, faster recycling back to its active form, and better contact with free radicals.
This study is the origin of the widely quoted 40–60× figure.
Key takeaway: A foundational lab finding. It describes membrane chemistry, not a health effect in people.
