Adults with ultrasound-diagnosed fatty liver took mixed tocotrienols or placebo for one year. More people in the tocotrienol group returned to a normal liver ultrasound.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) means extra fat is stored in the liver without heavy alcohol use. It is common and linked to metabolic health.

The trial used ultrasound to grade how the liver reflected sound waves, a sign of fat content. The tocotrienol group showed a higher rate of normalisation than placebo.

Key takeaway: An encouraging clinical signal for liver health. Ultrasound is a less precise measure than MRI or biopsy.
